Cloud Egress Cost

Enter how much data leaves your servers each month. See what each provider charges for internet egress, with the free allowance and tier lines shown.

Runs entirely in your browser. The numbers you type are not sent anywhere; the prices are a checked table built into the page.

  • 0 to 4,488 GB at USD 0.01 per GB = USD 44.88

Uses the 512 GB included with the smallest Cloud Compute plan, then USD 0.01 per GB. A 2 TB account allowance from an older blog post is not used, because the current page does not show it.

Tier lines
  • 0 to 4,500 GB at USD 0.01 per GB = USD 45.00

The smallest plan includes 500 GiB, pooled across your Droplets; each extra GiB is USD 0.01. This row reads GiB as GB, so overage reads about 7% high and the allowance is really about 537 GB. It also multiplies the allowance by the server count, which assumes the smallest plan.

  • 0 to 5,000 GB at USD 0.01 per GB = USD 50.00

B2 includes free download traffic of three times your stored data each month. That allowance is not counted here, so this row can overstate a bill for data you store.

Azure Zone 1 (North America and Europe). Decimal GB, prices as the page states them. The first 100 GB is free. Azure lists no public price above 500 TB a month and asks you to contact sales; this row keeps the last tier's rate beyond 500 TB.

About this tool

What egress means here

Egress is data that leaves a provider's network for the internet: a file download, an API response, a video stream. Most clouds let data come in for free and charge for what goes out, which is why outbound traffic is often the line on the bill that surprises people. This calculator covers internet egress at each provider's list price for the region group you pick.

How each price is built

Each plan is a set of tiers. Most providers price each block of gigabytes at its own rate, while a few charge the whole volume at the rate of the tier it lands in. Some providers include a set amount of traffic with every server and charge only for the overage. The free allowance comes off first. Units are decimal: 1 TB is 1,000 GB. Google and DigitalOcean bill per GiB and this table uses their printed numbers as GB, so their rows read about 7 percent high for the same bytes.

What the table leaves out

CDN traffic, committed-use or volume discounts, enterprise contracts, private links, and traffic between regions or zones of one provider are not included. Oracle Cloud and Fly.io are not listed yet. Prices are maintained by hand: every row shows the date it was checked and is marked when that is more than 90 days old. If you find a wrong number, please report it with the feedback button at the bottom right of the page. The euro rate is the one you type in; the default is the ECB reference rate, not a live rate. Backblaze's free download allowance, three times your stored data, is not counted. Cloudflare R2 charges nothing for egress, but its read and write requests are billed separately and are not estimated here.

Moving data out of an old cloud

Leaving a provider means the same egress is billed once more as the data leaves it. Pick the provider you are moving out of and the total volume you would move, and the calculator prices that one-time transfer with the same tiers and free allowance. It does not include the cost of new storage, requests, or the time the move takes.

Frequently asked questions

Is my traffic number sent anywhere?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and the numbers you type are not uploaded. The page sends only anonymous usage counts, such as a copy-JSON click, and never includes what you entered.

Why does Cloudflare R2 show $0?

Cloudflare R2 does not charge for egress from any storage class. Read and write requests are billed as usual, and this calculator does not estimate them, so a busy bucket still has a bill.

Why do Hetzner, DigitalOcean and Vultr have a fixed allowance?

They include a set amount of outbound traffic with each server and bill only the part above it. Enter how many servers you run: the allowance here is multiplied by that count. Turning a server off removes its share of the allowance.

Why is the USD per GB figure different from the list price?

The free allowance and the tiers pull the average down. The USD per GB column is the total divided by your whole volume, so it already reflects the free gigabytes and any cheaper higher tiers. At zero volume the cell is left blank rather than shown as zero.

How current are the prices?

Each row shows the date its source page was checked, and rows older than 90 days are marked as possibly out of date. A daily job re-reads the source pages and reports any wording change, but nothing updates the numbers by itself. They change only when someone checks them again.
